How we keep your account secure

Passwords are hashed with a per-password salt before storage — never saved in plain text.
Your email address is encrypted at rest and is never shown on any page, even to site admins.
Sign-in is protected against automated password guessing: repeated failed attempts temporarily lock the account, and rapid-fire retries are slowed down.
Registration and password resets are gated by a captcha to keep out bots.
Password-reset links are single-use and expire after a short time.
Changing your password signs out every other device currently using your account.

Privacy & your data

Creating an account stores your username; your email address, encrypted at rest and used only for verification and password-reset mail (never shown on any page, not even to administrators, and never shared); a salted hash of your password (never the password itself); and your reading activity — last chapter, gloss picks, preferences and a change history of those edits.

Signed out, the site sets only the essential raqia_session cookie after you sign in, and counts one visit per day using an irreversible hash of your IP address — the address itself is never stored. Nothing is used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

You can change most details, and delete your account, from the account page at any time. Full details, including data-sharing and retention, are in the Privacy & your data section at the bottom of the main page.
